I miss running. Plain and simple. It’s been almost a month since I’ve truly ran. Remind me to never again run a half marathon without any training. Sure the time result was great, but the longer term impact has been anything but.
Taking a reluctant and prolonged break from running has made me appreciate it and my health so much more. I miss the feeling of being free, of being on the trails and pounding the pavement, of having those amazing runs when you feel like you could go on forever. I miss lacing up my shoes and pushing my pace on those sweltering, hot summer days. I miss knowing that I was working towards achieving my goal of immersing myself in triathlons again. Quite frankly it sucks, but fortunately I’m not completely immobile. For that I am very grateful.
I could go on and on about the things I miss about running, but that won’t do me any good. This injury has made me even more motivated to get back up to speed and to surpass where I was at before I was sidelined. I take solace in knowing and feeling that I’ll be there, much sooner than later.
I’m hoping to be back on the right foot well before my expedition in the Rockies in early August, with an eye on competing in a triathlon in early September and partaking in some Fall road races. Fingers crossed!
